WORK
METHODOLOGY / PROCEDURE OF FLOOR TILLING AND DADO
GENERAL:
Ø The
surface of the Floor area shall prepared by removing loose particles,
blemishes, and deleterious materials. Efflorescence, chalk, dust, dirt, grease
and oils shall be removed.
Ø Ensure
necessary MEP clearance shall be obtained from concerned department.
Ø All
substrate defects shall be repaired up before Tilling work.
Ø Quality
of Cement, Sand and tiles shall be approved in advance.
Ø Cement
mortar bed under Floor Tiles, thickness of cement mortar shall be maintained as
necessary to obtain finish floor levels indicated on Approved Shop Drawings.
Ø Manual
spreading and compaction shall be done to obtain uniform depth and
distribution.
Ø Cutting
and drilling of tile shall be done without edge damage on visible surfaces.

Ø Fit
tile to electrical outlet, piping, fixtures and other penetration as shown in
the shop drawing
Ø Tiles
shall be soaking in water for one hour prior to setting in place for ceramic tiles only.
Ø Ensure
that delivered materials from approved manufacturers and in original labeled
packing.
Ø Size
and pattern shall be checked with respect to approved samples.
Ø Lay
out or setting out of the tile shall be done with minimum cutting of tiles.
Ø Tile
layout on wall or floor shall be followed as per approved drawing.
Ø Tile
type and colour shade, mortar, mix grout, shop drawings and method of
application shall be approved by client or consultant before start of
activities.
Ø Obtain
center lines for both axis as per approved shop drawing. Ø Tiles
of approved size & pattern shall be used for laying. Ø All
traces of grease, oil and loose particles etc. must be removed before
starting of tile fixing. Ø In
wet area water proofing work shall be completed before tile fixing. Ø Ensure
that the laying of tiles shall be as per the direction and pattern approved
by the consultant or client. Ø Setting
out shall be done before tile fixing and should be approved by the consultant
or client. Ø Tiling
shall be started from the start point as fixed on the approved shop drawing
or as directed by client. Ø The
surface shall be well soaked and touch dry before lying of cement mortar bed to
avoid absorption of water present in the mixed cement mortar by the RCC
surface. Ø For
vitrified tiles, surface shall be made wet by using of wet clothes just
before fixing. Ø Floor
tiles shall be set by using thick wet mortar bedding on uniformly distributed
Cement sand mortar beds. Ø Mortar
mix shall be 1 : 6 (1 part Portland cement and 6 part sand) or as per client
recommendations. Ø Thickness of bedding shall be between (20 - 25mm)
or as per standards. Ø Cement
slurry shall be applied on laid wet mortar bed before fixing of floor tile. * In case of Tile adhesive, adhesive shall be miss as per manufacturer guideline and adhesive shall be applied on concrete / plaster surface and shall be placed on floor as per marked direction Ø Each
tile shall be compressed by using rubber or wooden mallet to ensure bedding
of tiles. Ø No
shade variation shall be allowed. Ø Floor
tile fixing shall be started in 1 direction alongside of the center line. Ø Tile
shall be laid with required spacing and spacers shall be used to align
horizontal if required. Ø In
wet areas slope of the floor shall be maintain towards drains. Ø Top
level of tile shall be maintained as per drawing and top level & slop
will be maintained as per drawing requirement. WALL TILING (DADO);
Ø Plaster
shall be finished rough in order to have a strong key for tile fixing on
wall. Ø In
wet area waterproofing work shall be completed before tile fixing. Ø Door
frame shall be completed before wall tiling. Ø Size
of ventilator shall be checked before wall tiling. Ø To
ensure rows of tiles are truly horizontal, a level line shall be established to
position the starting course. Ø Tiles
of specified and approved size shall be fixed to the wall surface by neat cement
paste or approved adhesive. Ø Mixing
of adhesive shall be followed as per manufacturer’s recommendations if case
of tile adhesive to be used. Ø Cement
paste shall be used within 90 minutes of mixing. Ø Tamp
the tile with rubber mallet to obtain required adhesion and level. Ø Tile
shall be laid with required spacing and spacers shall be used to align
horizontal and vertical joints if required. Ø Lying
of tile shall be done as per the approved drawing and the pattern of tiles
shall be verified as per specification. Ø Tiles
shall be beaten and set firmly in place to ensure full contact between tile
back and bedding in full area of tile. Ø Excessive
grout or adhesive shall be removed with a damp cloth before the material is
set Ø The
vertical joints shall be maintained with plumb for the entire true level and
plane by uniformly applied pressure. Ø Joints
in wall tile and fittings, after adjust of tile has been thoroughly wet and
it shall be grouted with neat cement or approved grout. Ø Grout
shall be applied to the space between the tiles using a sponge or a soft
cloth Ø Grout
shall be filled at the joints to entire depth of the tile or minimum depth of
6mm. TILE GROUTING
Ø Clean
of joints shall be done by brush to ensure that thickness of tile is clear
and free of foreign material Ø Cement
grout mixed with required colour pigments shall be applied to the joint
spaces between tiles using a sponge or soft cloth. Ø Mixed
grout shall be applied into the joints of the tile thickness and around the
edges. Ø Surplus
grout shall be removed from the face of the tiles with dry cloth. Ø Cleaning
of the fixed tile surface shall be done with a sponge when the grout is dry. CLEANING AND
PROTECTING:
Ø On
completion of placement and grouting, cleaning of all tile surfaces shall be
done. Ø Surplus
cement grout residue shall be removed from tile surface as soon as possible. Ø Foot
and wheel traffic shall be prohibited from tiles floors at least for 7 days
after grouting is completed. Ø Protection
cover shall be provided during construction period to prevent staining,
damage and wear. Ø Before
final cleaning of tiling work sanitary fitting shall be completed. |
