WORK METHODOLOGY / PROCEDURE OF
FIXING OF WOODEN DOOR FRAME AND DOOR SHUTTER
a. STORAGE OF DOOR FRAMES AND SHUTTERS:
Ø
All checked and passed wooden frames and shutters shall be stored in a
dry and clean covered space away from any infestation and dampness.
Ø
The storage shall preferably be in well ventilated dry rooms.
Ø
The frames shall be stacked one over the other in vertical stacks with
cross battens at regular distances to keep the stack vertical and straight up
to limit height
Ø
These cross battens should be of uniform thickness and placed vertically
one over the other.
Ø
The door shutters shall be stacked in the form of clean vertical stacks
one over the other and at least 8 cm above ground on pallets or suitable beams
or rafters.
Ø
The shutter stack shall rest on hard and level ground
b. FIXING OF WOODEN DOOR FRAME;
Ø
Fixing wooden door frame shall be started before plaster work.
Ø
The door opening shall be provided in masonry wall during constructing of
wall (i.e. RCC wall and Masonry wall) as shown in the architectural drawing.
Ø
After ending the curing period of masonry walls, fixing of the door
frame shall be started.
Ø
Wooden door frames shall be made by carpenter as predetermined size and
provided to the construction site to fix.
Ø
Wooden door frames shall be fixed by a skilled mason/carpenter.
Ø
Before fixing frames tar paint or approved paint shall be coated on
unexposed sides of the frames and bottom 30mm shall be coated around the frame
which will be embedded into tile work. The coating of tar paint will be applied
by carpenter / painter only.
Ø
Application of tar coat shall be checked before fixing.
Ø
3 numbers of screw/anchor fastener shall be fixed on a
side of door frame for fixing of frames with RCC wall or masonry wall. For both
side of a door frame will need 6
numbers of screws or as specified in drawing or advised by
consultant/architect.
Ø
If required pull out test shall be conducted on anchors.
Ø
Each door frame shall be provided with three screw/anchor fastener on
either side- one at the top, one at the bottom (30 cm away from the top and bottom
edge) and one in the middle and as per design/consultant requirement.
Ø
Wall opening shall be done during making masonry wall for fixing door frame.
Ø
Door frame shall be segregated as per size and will be kept near the
location where to be fixed.
Ø
After line and level marking door frame shall be fixed in provided
openings as per drawing.
Ø
Top level marking shall be done to keep the top level of all doors same. So a reference mark will
be fixed and the level to all doors will be transferred with the help of
water-level pipe or Auto level.
Ø
Aligning of door frame with wall shall be done and plaster surface & door frame shall be in the same
level.
Ø
Tiles surface and door frame shall be in the same level in location
where tiles fix on the wall or as recommended by client or architect.
Ø
Door frame shall be truly vertical with the help of plumb-bob.
Ø
Before permanently fixing the door with concrete surface or masonry
surface, the alignment and top-level of the door frame shall be checked.
Ø
After final fixing and checking, the gap all around door frame shall be filled
with cement mortar or approved foam (as per client recommendation) to bond with
the RCC wall or masonry wall.
Ø
After the plaster and grouting have dried, all the marks of cement shall
be removed and the frames cleaned.
Ø
Middle screw shall be provided at band beam of block work if provided.
c. FIXING OF WOODEN DOOR SHUTTER;
Before installation it shall be determined
that all materials, i.e the shutters, hardwares, etc., are at site and of the
correct size and quality and as per specification.
Ø
Each doors and frames tagged with sticker with door number and location.
Ø
Check the tagged each doors and locate as per the approved shop drawing
and door schedule.
Ø
Verify opening dimension and angles and levels from finish floor line
reference to ensure that frames fit the openings. Align and fit the door in
frame to each desired location and elevation.
Ø
The door shutters shall be adjusted and fixed with two screws on each
hinge (blank fitting) before finishing of flooring works or necessary
supporting shall be carried out as per frames need.
Ø
During installation the shutters shall be carefully lifted, carried and
fixed.
Ø
Any transit defects or storage defects in a shutter should be rectified.
Ø
The Door shutters shall be fixed to the frames with approved size of hinges
by using suitable wood-screws or as recommended by client or Consultant.
Ø
The hinges shall be fixed one at
the Centre and the other two at 250 mm each from the top and bottom of the
shutter or as recommended by client or Consultant /as per drawing.
Ø
The screw shall be driven tight fit and straight.
Checking after Fixing-
Ø
The door shutters shall be checked again after fixing for proper
location, alignment and swinging.
Ø
Any rectification necessary shall be done.
Ø
Closing and opening, free movement without any kind of resistance will
be assured.
Installation of Fixtures –
Ø
The shutters shall then be fixed with locks, tower bolts, handles and
other fixtures like floor stoppers and aldrops as required.
Ø
The manufacturer’s instructions shall be followed for fixing of hardware.
Ø
The shutters shall be fixed with name plates, vision panels, louvres,
etc. if required.
Ø
After all the fixtures have been fitted the shutter shall be tried for
proper closure, handling and movement and shall then be prepared for painting
or finishing.
Ø
Protect door as recommended by manufacturer to ensure that wood doors
are without damage or deterioration at the time of Substantial Completion.
